3/1 Crew Meeting Notes

1) Great job on Sunday everyone! It was our smoothest day on set. Thanks!

2) We plan on shooting 11am-11pm this Saturday, March 5th. We will be starting with SCENE 1: INT. Prison - Night. This will be shot in the basement of PED on campus. Then there will be a company move to an exterior location, where we will shoot SCENE 8: EXT. Gem's Rundown Building - Night. This 2nd location will be announced soon.

3) We had 4 volunteers for the Post-Production Supervisor position (Adhish, Andre, Flo, and Rafael). Debora, the editors, and the sound designers will be discussing who they would like to pick for this position today.

4) The DPs and Debora will be meeting at either 5pm or 9pm tonight for a walkthrough of the Prison location (basement of PED).

5) We're brainstorming cheap ways to build prison doors. If you have any ideas, let Angel or Amanda know!!

That's it!

Goals for this weekend (read and respond)

Everyone -
Create an environment on set that is quiet and organized, and where ONLY the camera operator and boom operator are in the room with the actors during a take.

Pre-requisites:
Walkie-talkies (Brian gets them from Coffey)
Wireless follow focus*

Production Design:
- Dark wallpaper in the room (DPs requested dark shades of red) + aging
- Much Smaller Mirror by the dresser it's easier for Camera Dept. to hide equipment and themselves - Please give us choices of mirror if you can
- "Kitchen" / Fridge in bedroom, to the right of door -- see Rafael's drawing or call him for details. I have portable rangetop,  Angel has mini fridge. Possibly borrow movable sink / countertop from Zemeckis stage ?? Or rent one.

Pre-requisites: None. PDs go to work shopping! Spend the $$$ for the wallpaper. Keep Andre/Flo posted on your progress w these items

Camera Department:
- Figure out how to light the set in 2 hours. That means practice, practice, practice!
- Figure out how to build the camera and rig quickly. Again practice practice practice.

Pre-requisites:
- Practice your lighting ideas on a stage on campus *** please inform me bc I would like to come test a few things w u
- Andre is renting custom grip package from Wooden Nickel and working with Key Grip Harrison on strategy for fast setup of that room. Along with this comes...
- Big monitor for focus / Video Village
- Extension cables
- Wireless Follow Focus*
- Cube taps
- More, smaller lights

Sound -
- Manage walkies on set
Boom: Establish a small footprint and versatile operating manner. You will be ONLY person in room other than the camera operator during takes, which means work quiet, efficient. Also... because there will be a complex gripping setup in the room which will have a lot of overheard light, shadows will be a major issue for traditional overhead booming. The solution is to BOOM FROM THE SIDE (just off frame), particularly with extreme closeups. This may even involve taking the mic off the pole and just holding it in your hand.

Director:

- Shot List / Storyboard extensively.
- Come up with words for the feel and tone you want of each shot, and where major shifts occur in style and tone (i.e, handheld to sticks, sexy to ugly, etc.)
- Play with your players and their characters.

Preliminary Shot List for Weekend 1

Tuesday, February 1, 2011

List of things tested for Coco's apt.; To get an idea of what works as far as use of colors, textures, and furniture items that reflects Coco's character and the tone of the scene. Does the set decoration and arrangement of furniture lend itself to best help blocking of scene/characters' actions?
1. Few different sheets to hang as divider (various colors/patterns)
2. Tan Bed Cover, Pillows: Dark green velvet-like texture & a faded floral pattern one
3. Window Coverings: Light green curtain, cardboard (duck-taped)
4. Small t.v. with foil wrapped antenna; will a bigger t.v. be better?
5. Brownish-yellow curtain to see how color will look when lit using colored gels.
6. Dark brown mirror dresser & bedside drawer
7. Toy: Bright orange stuffed animal on bed
8. Empty food can next to t.v.

Sound - test weekend

2 wireless lav kits have been picked up, will be used this weekend to test as backups for interior shoots, possibly main mic for exterior shoots depending on boom quality.

A kit of 6 walkie talkies has been borrowed from SCA.

Sound blankets are no longer available to students except for thesis films, so if this weekend proves that we will need some, then we'll have to budget accordingly.
